The retail fruit and vegetable seller works in a retail environment, such as supermarkets, shopping centers or delicatessens. The fruit and vegetable seller is responsible for presenting, selling and serving fresh produce for store customers. The position requires expertise in fruits and vegetables, great attention to detail, and an ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Main responsibilities:
- Receiving, sorting and storing delivered fruits and vegetables correctly
- Advise customers on the different types of fruits and vegetables, their characteristics and their culinary uses
- Ensure an attractive and appetizing presentation of products, using staging and decorating techniques
- Make special orders for customers, such as fruit baskets or vegetable platters
- Respond to customer requests regarding food allergies and intolerances
- Manage administrative tasks related to fruits and vegetables, such as timesheets, expense reports, and supply orders
- Clean and maintain fruit and vegetable equipment, including sales counters, cutting tools, and processing machines
- Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards
Skills required:
- Expertise in fruits and vegetables and previous experience in selling fresh produce
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
- Ability to work in a fast and dynamic environment
- Organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively with other staff

Education and experience required:
A degree in cooking or sales is not mandatory to become a fruit and vegetable retail salesperson, however, prior experience selling fresh produce is essential. Food safety and hygiene training may also be required.
Remuneration:
The hourly rate of a Fruit and Vegetable Vendor varies according to geographic region and experience. On average, the rate used by Onestaff's partner establishments is €15.00 excluding tax/hour.
