A chef is responsible for managing and overseeing the kitchen of a restaurant or catering establishment. The head chef is responsible for creating menus, managing food stocks, supervising the preparation and cooking of food, managing the kitchen team, and ensuring the quality of the dishes served.
Key responsibilities:
- Design menus to satisfy the tastes and needs of customers, while respecting production costs
- Manage food stocks by ensuring that the necessary ingredients are available for the preparation of dishes
- Supervise the preparation and cooking of food to ensure the quality and presentation of dishes
- Manage and train the kitchen team to ensure productivity and quality of work
- Ensure compliance with food hygiene and safety standards
- Maintain positive relationships with customers by meeting their needs and providing a quality dining experience
- Manage the kitchen budget by ensuring that production costs are managed effectively
Skills required:
- Excellent cooking skills and creativity for menu design
- Knowledge of food safety standards and government food hygiene regulations
- Ability to effectively manage a team and maintain a positive work environment
- Excellent communication skills to interact with kitchen staff and customers
- Ability to manage the kitchen budget and manage production costs
- Ability to work under pressure and manage peak periods successfully
Education and experience required:
- Diploma in cooking or equivalent experience in the culinary field
- Experience working in a commercial kitchen
- Kitchen team management experience
Remuneration:
The hourly rate for a Chef varies according to the geographical region and experience. On average, the rate used by Onestaff's partner establishments is €25.00 excluding tax/hour.
